Acne & Scarring

Acne is a very common condition classically affecting teenagers, but also many adults. Regardless of age, it can be debilitating and really knock your confidence.

Breakouts develop due to the pores of the skin becoming blocked with dead skin cells and excess sebum, which can then become infected with bacteria. Our skin produces additional oil with hormonal fluctuations, such as at puberty, pregnancy and menopause, but also at times of stress due to increased cortisol release. There is likely a genetic element, and added to this, a diet high in sugary foods can contribute to the inflammation in some people.

It is really important not to be tempted to pick or squeeze spots, and ideally, it is best to get control before scarring or post-inflammatory pigmentation develops. So: a multifactorial problem, but the good news is acne can be controlled. We provide expert advice - according to your age and skin type - and can offer home-care and in-clinic treatments to calm inflammation and breakouts. Find out more on our Skin Health page, as well as how microneedling can help resolve scarring.
