Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment used to correct the early signs of ageing. We use hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance, to target sagging and loss of volume.

This improves hydration and collagen production whilst restoring structure and plumpness to the face, smoothing out wrinkles and folds to achieve gentle rejuvenation.

FAQs

  • Dermal fillers act to replace volume and increase support to areas of the face where volume has been lost. At The Lodsworth Clinic, we generally use fillers made from hyaluronic acid gel due to their safety profile (these can be dissolved in the unusual event of a problem). Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance which attracts moisture, hence improving skin hydration and smoothness. It also act as a biostimulator for collagen, improving skin texture and tone.

  • Dermal fillers can be used in the upper, mid and lower face to restore plumpness, redefine features, and improve skin quality. We treat cheeks, temples, nasolabial (nose to mouth), marionette (mouth to chin) lines, down-turned mouth corners, lips, chin and jawline contouring. Anti-wrinkle injections often compliment filler placement, and can be used in combination to gently soften features, sometimes over several sessions.

  • Our motto is definitely ‘less is more’. A full facial assessment is important, so that we can better understand your concerns and your goals prior to treatment. You are the expert on ‘you’, and we want to ensure you are happy with the proposed treatment before bringing you back for a second appointment to proceed. We look at symmetry, balance and proportion so we can target areas subtly and avoid a ‘done’ look. But there is more to this than science, rather it’s important to work artistically, with the natural anatomy of the face.  We do not aim to take years off you, but rather make you look and feel rested and refreshed: normal, natural and beautiful.

  • Before your treatment, you will undergo a full assessment, and consent. You will not undergo treatment at your first appointment, as we want the opportunity to get to know you first, as well as give you time to be comfortable with your treatment plan. At your second appointment, local anaesthetic cream will be used to numb the area, before dermal filler injection using either a fine needle or cannula.  It is best to allow 2 weeks before any big occasion to ensure any swelling or bruising has completely resolved. Results last for 9- 18 months.

  • Absolutely not! We always strive to enhance what you have, not to give you something different. It is normal to have creases, and we need movement to convey expression. Anatomical knowledge is key, but Wendy has also trained specifically in developing her artistry in aesthetics – essential skills to obtain natural looking results. Less is definitely more: we want people to say you look well, not to ask what 'work' you've had done.

  • The results from dermal fillers are visible immediately, although they will improve with time as the hyaluronic acid takes effect. There may be some redness, bruising, or transient swelling which will settle within a few days. The risk of infection, allergy or vessel occlusion is extremely rare, and every precaution is taken to avoid this.

  • Dermal fillers are completely safe as long as they are injected by the right hands. Currently, aesthetic practice in the UK is unregulated, and unfortunately there are many practitioners who do not have the medical expertise to recognise or treat a complication/allergic reaction appropriately.  Choose your injector wisely – it is imperative that they are not only highly trained with an artistic eye, but also that they are medically qualified to care for you. Look out for practitioners accredited by SaveFace, the national register of approved practitioners: recognised by the UK Government, Department of Health, NHS England, and the Care Quality Commission.
